In 1990, His international career started appearing in the England under-21 under Dave Sexton. Alan scored 13 times in 11 games and his record has not been beaten ever since. Alan then played for England B in 1992 but did not score a goal.
Shearer participated in the 1998 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Moldova, UEFA Euro 1996, and in UEFA Euro 2000 qualifier against Luxembourg.
