He commenced his career working for the PBS affiliate KBYU-TV in Provo, Utah as an associate producer and reporter in 1983, then he worked in Salt Lake City for ABC affiliate KTVX-TV. He also worked for NBC affiliate, KRBC-TV, in Abilene in 1985 as a producer, reporter, and anchor until August 1987 when he began working as a news reporter in El Paso at KVIA-TV, an ABC affiliate station for a year. He then worked as a news reporter at KMOL-TV which is now known as WOAI-TV, an NBC affiliate station in San Antonio.

In addition, he worked as a reporter in Los Angeles, California at KABC-TV, during his time here, he reported and covered the Erik Menendez Rodney King, Lyle, and also O.J.
