He was born and raised in Ludhiana City, Punjab, to Punjabi parents. He finished primary and high school at a local school in his hometown. He continued his education at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering. Soon after, he started working as a research intern for Microsoft Research India.
In 2011, Bhavish and Ankit Bhati co-founded Ola Cabs in Bengaluru. The firm has grown to become India’s largest network of personal transportation solutions. It has also been the most preferred option for many people in 22 Indian cities. After a poor experience with a taxi on his way from Bangalore to Bandipur, he had the idea for a cab firm. He stepped down as CEO of Ola Cabs in April 2022 to focus on Ola Electric.
