Brett pursued nuclear engineering and physics at the United States Military Academy and in 2018 at the Senior Bowl Brett became the last person to represent the Army Black Knights football team. Furthermore, Brett played in the 2018 East–West Shrine Game. The 2017 Army Black Knights led the country in offense during his senior season. The Army attempted just 65 forward passes and rushed 785 times last season during that season. Toth worked for the 2018 Black Knights as a graduate assistant and he executed the engineering officer training, acquiring a platoon leader role.

There was a 5-year service commitment when Toth entered his commitment at West Point. During his stay, the policy was changed to 24 months. United States President Donald Trump requested that a policy be established to facilitate athletic pursuits in June 2019, and after the new policy, Austin Cutting the 2019 NFL Draft selectee was the first to sign a professional contract.
