Kirk formed “The Family”, which was a 17-voice choir, formed from neighborhood friends and associates in the year 1992. In 1993 the Family also released their debut album, Kirk Franklin & The Family. It spent almost two years on the gospel music charts and charted on the R&B charts.

In 1995, they released an album called Kirk Franklin & the Family Christmas, the group released Whatcha Lookin’ 4 in 1996. In 1996, his song called ”joy” was also recorded by Whitney Houston and the Georgia Mass Choir.

He also released songs as a solo artist such as the soundtrack for the film Kingdom Come which included gospel artists Mary Mary, Trin-i-tee 5:7, Crystal Lewis, and Franklin’s group 1NC, as well as mainstream artists Az Yet, Jill Scott, Tamar Braxton, Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men and others.

He also released The Rebirth of Kirk Franklin in February 2002 after he had worked for. In 2005 he also released in the United States. The album was certified Gold on December 2, 2005, and Platinum on December 14, 2006, by the Recording Industry Association of America. His father also served as the host and co-executive producer of the BET original series Sunday Best and the musical co-host of GSN’s with the American Bible Challenge with Jeff Foxworthy.
