David worked at WGN as the host of Sports Central in 1995, he co-hosted the show together with former Chicago Bears star Tom Waddle for a period of more than a decade, the show at the time was the longest on-air sports talk duo in Chicago radio history. Then in February 2007, Waddle left to join ESPN Radio and Kaplan hosted the show solo till March 2010, when the show was replaced with a non-sports-oriented talk show by former Program Director Kevin Metheny.
After the removal of Metheny in December 2010, Kaplan signed a new long-term contract, to work as the primary host of a new evening talk show named WGN Sports Night at WGN Radio. He was titled for Chicago Tribune Live on Comcast SportsNet as the host in January 2008.
In November 2012, he got employed by the NBC Sports Network, to call college basketball games after a long stint as a basketball announcer for ESPN.
