Declan Donnelly Biography

Declan Donnelly is a British television presenter and producer, actor, comedian, and former singer from Newcastle upon Tyne, England.  He is famous for working as part of the presenting duo Ant & Dec alongside Ant McPartlin.

Donelly came to prominence in the children’s drama series Byker Grove alongside McPartlin, with both men establishing successful careers as television presenters. Byker and Declan are most known for presenting SMTV Live between 1998 and 2001, I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! and Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway since 2002, and Britain’s Got Talent since 2007.

On July 22, 2006, He was the best man for McPartlin’s wedding to Lisa Armstrong. In August 2011, Declan attended his father’s funeral after Alphonsus died of cancer while in hospital. His career in television started at the age of 12 after his father suggested that he audition for a new children’s television program called Byker Grove. The show was being created by CBBC in Newcastle upon Tyne and had been advertised in local newspapers.

His success in this audition led to him securing the role of Duncan, whereupon he met Anthony McPartlin for the first time. Although Declan grew up in an estate close to  Declan, Anthony had never met him until their involvement in the children’s drama.

The duo served together on the show until they eventually departed the show in 1993, whereupon they started to bond as friends, both professionally and socially. Declan and McPartlin after a short tenure in music furthered their careers in television. They eventually became the presenting duo of Ant & Dec. Previously, they had fronted the Children’s TV show ‘The Ant and Dec Show’ on BBC1, which ran for 2 series, and a stint on Channel 4 with the edgier ‘Ant & Dec Unzipped.’

The duo continued to work in children’s television, fronting ITV’s Saturday morning children’s program SMTV Live. They left the show in 2001 and branched out to front other shows, including game shows such as Friends Like These, PokerFace, and Push the Button, entertainment programs such as  I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, and Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, as well as talent shows such as Pop Idol, and Britain’s Got Talent.

The duo continued to maintain acting careers as they starred in a tribute to The Likely Lads in 2002 titled “No Hiding Place” which was a form of a remake of an episode from the show’s sequel Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads? They also starred in the 2006 film titled  Alien Autopsy. Currently, Ant & Dec have their own production company called Mitre Television where they produce their own shows.
