He attended St. Mary’s College High School before enrolling in the University of California’s Berkeley campus, where he got a bachelor’s degree in history in 1991. Ed was an Alpa Delta Phi brother while at Berkeley. He also played rugby for California.

Following graduation, he worked as a model in Paris, Barcelona, and Milan, where he was cast in over 35 international television commercials. After returning to the United States, he landed the lead role of Finn in The WB summer series Young Americans in 2000. He later appeared in reruns of CSI: NY and Jack & Jill. In 2002, he made his acting debut in the low-budget Harvey Keitel film Beeper. He then appeared in the 2004 direct-to-video sequel Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation. Quinn starred as Nathan Stark in the Syfy series Eureka from 2006 through 2008, and he reprised the role in 2010.

He joined the cast of ABC’s Mistresses in 2015. From 2016 to 2017, he appeared in the final two seasons of the CBS comedy 2 Broke Girls. Quinn appears regularly in the Netflix series One Day at a Time in 2018. He played Max Ferraro in the fourth season of One Day at a Time, which aired on Pop (as well as TV Land and Logo) in 2020. In 2019, Quinn was cast as fictional President Hunter Franklin in Tyler Perry’s prime-time soap opera The Oval.

He was also a member of the Los Angeles bands Mad Theory and Scattergood, which got him a recording contract and let him study with Joe Satriani. He sang and played lead and rhythm guitar in the dissolved band ScatterGood. Quinn recently released Quinn, his first solo demo CD, which includes the tracks “Because of You,” “Cause I Do,” and “We Had It Made,” all of which were produced by Quinn’s friend Chris Lloyd.
