While still a student at Lake Howell High School, Burris began his weather career with another Orlando television station. Because of his passion for meteorology, Seminole County Public Schools created an internship program for him to earn credit. After graduating from high school, he assisted in the aftermath of hurricanes Charley, Frances, Jeanne, and Wilma. This provided him with unrivaled experience and prepared him for the shift from behind-the-scenes to front-of-the-camera employment.
Burris was hired by WPBF-TV in West Palm Beach, WESH 2’s sister station, in 2006, but he didn’t stay long. In 2007, he assisted WESH in covering the devastating Groundhog Day tornadoes, and he began filling in on weekends at WESH, eventually becoming a full-time member of the WESH weather team. He’s always wanted to work with the weather, and he’s affectionately known in the newsroom as a “weather guy.”
Burris spends his time off the air aiding Hearst Television’s 26 other weather departments, assisting in the creation of the best-looking, clear, and easy-to-understand graphics in the country.
WESH, virtual channel 2, is an NBC-affiliated television station licensed to Daytona Beach that broadcasts from Orlando, Florida. The station is part of a duopoly with Clermont-licensed CW affiliate WKCF, owned by the Hearst Television division of New York City-based Hearst Communications.
