Gary Lineker Career
At the age of sixteen, Gary signed his first professional contract with Leicester City, where he quickly established himself as a promising young player. In 1979, he helped the club win the Second Division title and earn promotion to the First Division.
In 1985, He joined Everton for a transfer fee of £800,000, where he scored 40 goals in 57 appearances over two seasons. His performances at Everton earned him a move to Barcelona, where he played for three seasons and won the European Golden Shoe in 1986 as Europe’s top scorer.
In 1989, Lineker returned to England to play for Tottenham Hotspur, where he spent the final years of his playing career. He scored 80 goals in 138 appearances for the club and helped them win the FA Cup in 1991.
Lineker made his international debut for England in 1984 and went on to score 48 goals in 80 appearances for his country. He played in two World Cup tournaments, in 1986 and 1990, and was the top scorer in the latter, winning the Golden Boot.
