Every weekday from 4:30 a.m. until 7 a.m., Birch hosts Local 10 News Mornings. She is also honored to serve as the investigation team’s animal advocate. She began working for Local 10 News in January 2004 and is proud that many of her animal investigations have not only informed the public but have also resulted in changes to the legislation in Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
After college, she moved to Clarksburg, West Virginia, to work for WBOY, where she anchored the weekend newscast. Clarksburg, a small coal-mining town, provided a significant cultural contrast to Miami. The Y2K “disaster” on New Year’s Eve was the first story she covered.
Birch moved on to WDBJ in Roanoke, Virginia, after six months, where she was in charge of daily weather forecasts and entertainment stories in the Star City. She adored the small-town feel, the moderate seasonal changes, and the breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountains. It was then on to Nashville, Tennessee, the world’s country music capital. Birch was in charge of anchoring the group.
The call to return home came from Local 10 after that. Birch has spent the last 15 years reporting and anchoring, as well as covering weather, traffic, the Heat reaching the NBA Finals, and more hurricanes than she can remember. Nothing, however, compares to being at home, working at the station where she grew up watching and learning from her “TV idols,” Don Noe and Dwight Lauderdale.
