Jason Statham is a British actor well-known for playing tough, hardboiled, gritty, or violent characters in action-thriller films.Statham began practicing Chinese martial arts, kickboxing, and karate as a hobby while working at local market stalls in his teens. He was a member of the British national diving team and represented England at the Commonwealth Games in 1990.
Soon after, he was requested to model in advertisements for French Connection, Tommy Hilfiger, and Levi’s. His previous experience working at market stalls influenced his casting in Guy Ritchie’s crime flicks Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) and Snatch (2000).

While working as a model for French Connection, he was introduced to emerging British director Guy Ritchie[18], who was creating a film project and needed to fill the role of a street-wise con artist. Ritchie cast Statham in the part of “Bacon” in his 1998 crime comedy movie Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels after learning about his background as a black market seller. The film was highly received by reviewers and spectators alike, and it helped put Statham in the public eye. He was paid £5,000 for his part in the film.
Statham’s second work with Ritchie was in the 2000 picture Snatch when he played “Turkish.” The film starred prominent stars Brad Pitt, Dennis Farina, and Benicio del Toro.
Statham played Arthur Bishop in the remake of the 1972 Charles Bronson thriller The Mechanic, his first feature of 2011.
