Austin is one of the few KARE 11 reporters that relocated to the station from the south. She spent six and a half years with the NBC station in Duluth before joining KARE 11 in February 2019.
She began her work in the station’s bureau in Hibbing, Minnesota, where she grew up just a few blocks from Bob Dylan’s childhood home. Austin has spent six and half years working for the station. She aspired to be several things, including a librarian at one point. She was a voracious reader. I interviewed my neighborhood librarian for a career assignment in elementary school.
She has several “favorite” stories, but one that stands out is about a chiropractor in Superior, Wisconsin, who dressed up every year as Santa Claus. He gave out gifts to everyone he met while driving around town in his convertible.
