Jermaine Jenas is a former professional footballer and English television broadcaster. He was a central midfielder for Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, and Queens Park Rangers in England. He scored 39 goals in 341 league appearances during his career.
Additionally, he made 21 appearances for the senior England national football team and registered one goal. He made his professional debut for his boyhood club Nottingham Forest when he was 21 years old. The team was already in the second division at the time. Jermaine was sold to Premier League club Newcastle United for £5 million a year later. At the age of 19, he got his first senior England cap in February 2003.
He was named the PFA Young Player of the Year in 2002-03. He failed to attain the professional heights anticipated of him due to a series of catastrophic injuries. Jermaine remained at the elite level, moving to Tottenham for £7 million in 2005. In the 2007-08 season, he helped the team win the Football League Cup. Jermaine’s playing career came to an end following loan stints at Nottingham Forest in the second division in 2012 and Aston Villa in the Premier League in 2011. In the January 2013 transfer window, he made a permanent move to Queens Park Rangers, a struggling Premier League club. Jermaine played for most of the following season after being relegated with QPR in May before suffering an injury that forced his retirement.
While recovering from his final injury, Jermaine transitioned into the media. He worked as a pundit and has continued to do so after retiring. He most recently worked on Match of the Day for the BBC.
