He posted 13 points, 8 assists, and 11 rebounds in the 2008 NCAA Tournament in a second-round upset of Duke. In April 2009, Mazzulla was suspended by coach Bob Huggins after being arrested for domestic battery at a bar in Morgantown, West Virginia.
As a redshirt junior, he was named a captain and assisted West Virginia to reach the 2010 Final Four. In the Elite Eight upset of Kentucky, Mazzulla scored 17 points. Mazzulla averaged 7.7 points and 3.8 rebounds per game as a senior. He scored 700 points and dished out 340 assists in his career.
Upon his graduation, he was offered a coaching job at Nova Southeastern. Mazzulla declined to pursue professional opportunities. He joined Glenville State in September 2011 as an assistant. In 2013, he was hired at Fairmont State under Jerrod Calhoun as an assistant.
Mazzula served as an assistant for the Maine Red Claws of the NBA G League during the 2016–17 season. In March 2017, Mazzula was named head coach of Fairmont State. Mazzula was hired as an assistant coach of the Boston Celtics in June 2019. On September 22, 2022, he was named interim head coach for the Celtics after Ime Udoka was suspended for the entire 2022–23 season.
