He went to numerous schools after finishing his studies, including Gloomangar Primary School in New South Wales. He also went to Townsville High School in Queensland.

After publishing a number of revelations made by US Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning in 2010, Wikileaks gained attention on a global scale. Speaking of leaks, there was the Baghdad airstrike Collateral Murder video in April 2010, the Afghanistan war logs in July 2010, the Iraq war logs in October 2010, and numerous others.

Following the November 2010 event in which Sweden issued an international arrest order for Assange on sexual assault claims, he said the allegations were a pretext for his extradition from Sweden to the US. This was due to his involvement in the disclosure of classified American documents.

After losing his appeal against extradition to Sweden, he violated bail and sought refuge in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London. Later, in August 2012, Ecuador awarded him asylum based on political persecution. As a result, in 2019, Swedish prosecutors dropped their inquiry. They claimed that the considerable amount of time since the events in question had damaged their proof.

Furthermore, Wikileaks disclosed classified Democratic Party emails during the 2016 U.S. election campaign, revealing that the party’s national committee supported Hilary Clinton over her opponent. Following a series of disagreements with Ecuadorian officials, his refuge was withdrawn on April 11, 2019.

On January 4, 2021, UK District Judge Venessa Baraitser ruled against the US request to hand up Julian, stating that doing so would be “oppressive” given worries about his mental health and suicide risk. He was also denied bail, awaiting a US appeal on January 6, 2021. Furthermore, in March 2022, the UK Supreme Court denied him permission to appeal.
