He started his coaching profession at 17 years old after he tore his ACL during his senior year. Dillingham began working with the junior varsity team at Chaparral High School before being promoted to the offensive coordinator of the varsity team at the age of 21. While he was coaching at Chaparral, Dillingham enrolled at Arizona State University where he graduated with a degree in business/economics in 2012.

In 2014, Dillingham was hired as an offensive assistant at Arizona State under offensive coordinator Mike Norvell. In 2016, Dillingham was hired as a graduate assistant for the Tigers after Norvell was hired to be the head coach at Memphis. He was named the official quarterbacks’ coach for Memphis after Tigers offensive coordinator Chip Long left to be the offensive coordinator at Notre Dame.

He was elevated to offensive coordinator for the 2018 season following Long’s successor Darrell Dickey leaving for Texas A&M. In 2019, he was hired as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Auburn succeeding Chip Lindsey. Dillingham spent one season with the Tigers, recording a 9-3 record averaging 33.2 points per game.

He departed Auburn and joined Florida State as their offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, succeeding Kendal Briles after Norvell left Memphis to be the next head coach at Florida State. He was hired as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Oregon on December 17, 2021, under head coach Dan Lanning. Currently, he serves as the head football coach at Arizona State University.
