Latavius Murray Biography

Latavius Rashard Murray is a famous American football running back playing for the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League. He played college football at UCF and was selected by the Oakland Raiders in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft, with whom he would receive Pro Bowl honors in 2016. Previously, he played for the Denver Broncos,  Baltimore Ravens, New Orleans Saints, and Minnesota Vikings.

He played college football at the University of Central Florida. Latavius made his collegiate debut against South Carolina State and recorded 43 rushing yards and two touchdowns. He finished with 132 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns in his freshman season. After his freshman year, he tore his ACL during the offseason while playing basketball. After redshirting in 2009, Latavius returned to the Knights’ backfield in 2010.

On December 4, 2010, against SMU, he recorded 94 rushing yards and 21 receiving yards in a game with his first collegiate receiving touchdown. He was an All-C-USA First-team selection in his senior season and was named to Phil Steele’s All-C-USA First-team. Latavius was selected to the College Football Performance Awards Special Teams Watch List and was named to the College Football Performance Awards All-Purpose Trophy Watch List. Latavius completed his college career with 2,424 rushing yards, 37 rushing touchdowns, 50 receptions, 524 receiving yards and 6 receiving touchdowns.

He was considered a sixth to seventh-round selection according to Latavius was not invited to the NFL Combine but gained much attention with an outstanding performance at Central Florida’s Pro Day. He was drafted by by the Oakland Raiders with the 181st overall pick in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft. On June 6, 2013, Latavius signed a four-year, $2.26 million contract with the Raiders.

On August 27, 2013, he was placed on injured reserve, ending his rookie season before it kicked off. The Raiders turned to Latavius in Week 11 to provide a spark after ineffectiveness by McFadden and Jones-Drew all year after being third on the depth chart for the first half of the season behind veterans Darren McFadden and Maurice Jones-Drew. He finished the 2018 season with 578 rushing yards and six touchdowns along with 22 receptions for 141 yards.

He signed a four-year, $14.4 million contract with the Saints on March 13, 2019. Latavius made his Saints debut in the season opener against the Texans, rushing six times for 43 yards and a 30-yard touchdown in the narrow 30–28 win. He finished his first season with the Saints with 637 rushing yards and five touchdowns alongside 34 receptions for 235 yards and a touchdown.

On September 10, 2021, the Ravens signed Latavius following injuries to  Gus Edwards, J. K. Dobbins, and Justice Hill. In Week 4, he was named the starter against the Broncos. Latavius finished the 2021 season with 119 carries for 501 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns.

On September 13, 2022, he was signed to the Saints’ practice squad. On October 1, 2022, he was promoted to the active roster. On October 4, 2022, Latavius was signed off the Saints practice squad by the Broncos after a season-ending injury to Javonte Williams. On May 1, 2023, he signed a one-year contract with the Bills, becoming the oldest active running back on an NFL roster that season (aged 33).
