Lelan has been voted in Reader’s Polls for each paper as the favorite weather anchor by Readers of the Nashville Scene and The Tennessean. Lelan was voted as among the Best Dressed men in Nashville by The Tennessean and The Nashville News family of newspapers. Furthermore, Lelan works on a variety of boards such as the Board of Visitors for UTK College of Communication & Information, Laughter is the Best Medicine, Middle TN Boy Scouts, Northwest YMCA, and Cornerstone Financial Credit Union.

In the past, Lelan has worked on boards for Youth Encouragement Services, First Steps, TSU Cooperative Extension, UT-Knoxville AG Institute, and the TN 4-H Foundation. Lelan was assigned to work two terms on the Davidson Co. Agricultural Extension Committee by the retired Metro Nashville Mayor, Bill Purcell, & the Metro Council.

Lelan is the president of the Nashville Association of Black Journalists, a member of 100 Black Men of Middle TN, a member of the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association, and both organizations gave Lelan the TV Seal of Approval.
