Madison Cawthorn Political Career
Cawthorn is the presumptive winner of the Republican Party primary for North Carolina’s 11th congressional district in June 2020, where he defeated Lynda Bennett. Bennett, who had been endorsed by President Donald Trump, was also the “handpicked successor” of former congressman Mark Meadows, White House chief of staff, who vacated the contested seat. Madison Cawthorn is likely to face off against Democrat Moe Davis in the fall election. If elected, Cawthorn will become the youngest member of Congress.
Cawthorn had won a nomination to the United States Naval Academy from Congressman Meadows, and also a full Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) scholarship from the United States Marine Corps. His plans for a military career were derailed while returning from a 2014 spring break trip in Florida when his friend fell asleep at the wheel and crashed their vehicle.
Due to the impact of the accident, Cawthorn partially paralyzed on his left side he now uses a wheelchair. He describes himself as a Christian and a Constitutional conservative.
