During his senior year of high school, he was elevated to the position of sports department clerk. Furthermore, he obtained a full-time job while attending Florida International University in 1998. Manny eventually made his way onto the high school beat in 2000. In addition, in 2005, he was promoted to backup on the University of Miami beat and was given multimedia responsibilities.

In addition, before covering the Miami Heat in 2015, he worked as a backup on the Marlins beat. Manny also authored and produced an online high school football show called Gridiron Report on, as well as a high school football podcast, while working for the Miami Herald.
