Breida went to nearby Nature Coast Technical High School in Brooksville, Florida. He was a Sharks high school football player. After he attended Georgia Southern University and played football there. As a sophomore in 2014, he rushed for 1,485 yards (second most by a GSU sophomore to Adrian Peterson) and 17 touchdowns on 171 carries, while also catching eight passes for 97 yards and a touchdown. On November 15, he had a career-high 210 yards against the Navy. In 2015, he improved to 1,609 yards (second in the conference to Larry Rose III) and 17 touchdowns on 203 carries as a junior.

As a senior in 2016, he had 646 yards and three touchdowns on 168 carries, as well as 11 receptions for 53 yards and two touchdowns. This significant drop in output was not due to injury, but rather to first-year head coach Tyson Summers’ unsuccessful transition from a triple-option offense. He was traded to the Miami Dolphins on April 25, 2020, for a fifth-round pick, which the 49ers used to select West Virginia offensive lineman Colton McKivitz. The Dolphins placed Breida on the reserve/COVID-19 list on December 4, 2020,[46] and activated him on December 16. He finished the 2020 season with 59 carries for 254 yards rushing and nine receptions for 96 yards receiving.

He signed a one-year contract with the Buffalo Bills on March 29, 2021. He scored his first touchdown with the Bills in Week 10 against the New York Jets, despite being used sparingly due to the presence of running backs, Zack Moss and Devin Singletary. With only eight offensive snaps, he rushed three times for 28 yards and a touchdown, as well as catching three passes for 22 yards and a touchdown, but he also lost a fumble.
