He also worked as a news cadet at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, he began working here in February 1987. Also for five years, he worked covering both New South Wales and Victorian politics at the Canberra Press gallery. He then became an NSW state political reporter in 1988 and got to change tables to a finance reporter in 1991.
He began working as a co-host on the financial news and provided a segment during the current affairs news segment on ABC Radio News, from 1993 to 1998. Then he became the business and finance reporter for AM, in 2001, he also worked from late 2004 to 2005 as an economic correspondent on Lateline. He also was the ABC’s correspondent in Washington from June 2005 to July 2009. He began working as co-presenter alongside Virginia Troili for ABC News Breakfast in June 2019, then later Virginia left News Breakfast to join ABC Radio Melbourne as Mornings presenter in June 2019 and she was replaced by Lisa Millar.
