Nancy Alvarez WFTV
Alvarez joined Eyewitness News in May 2010 and is now co-anchoring Eyewitness News This Morning with Jamie Holmes. Her family is from Cuba, and she grew up in South Florida, but I consider Orlando to be my second home. Alvarez has spent the majority of his career in central Florida. Her first on-air employment was with Central Florida News 13 as a Brevard County bureau reporter.
Then it was on to WKMG, where she worked as a reporter for five years and was nominated for two Emmys for her work in the station’s investigative team. Alvarez had the privilege of covering multiple space shuttle launches and landings at the Kennedy Space Center while working at both stations. Standing near the runway at the space center in February 2003, waiting for Columbia, was one of the most difficult moments of my career.
Covering that catastrophe was an unforgettable experience for me. During the now-infamous 2004 hurricane season, I was also in central Florida for Hurricanes Charlie, Frances, and Jean, reporting nonstop. She is pleased to be back in Orlando after a three-year absence and proud to be a part of the WFTV team.
Nancy Alvarez Cancer
Alvarez revealed that she had received a breast cancer diagnosis. “A very small tumor was discovered in my right breast during my annual mammogram a few weeks ago,” Alvarez stated. “It turned out to be cancer,” says the narrator. It’s only in the first stage, and there’s no sign that it’s spread.
