From 2010 through 2014 Rob played as a right tackle on Wisconsin’s offensive line. Rob began in 42 of them and played in 54 games in his five years. In 2010 Rob was a redshirt freshman. In 2011 Rob played in 12 games, and for his remaining three years he began each game. The media named Rob 2nd-Team All-Big Ten Conference in 2013. The American Football Coaches Association named Rob 1st-Team All-American and consensus 1st-Team All-Big Ten at the end of the 2014 season. Rob was the solo Badgers player invited to play in the 2015 Senior Bowl at the end of his fifth year.

In the second round (57th overall) in the 2015 NFL Draft the St. Louis Rams selected Rob. Rob began 13 games at right tackle in his recruit season and all season he did not allow a sack. Together with Rams’ teammate Todd Gurley Rob was named to Pro Football Writers of America’s All-Rookie Team at the end of the season. Rob appeared in and began 15 games for the Rams in the 2016 season.

After the signing of Andrew Whitworth, it was declared on April 11, 2017, that Rob would be shifted inside to guard. Rob remained the Rams starting right tackle to start 2017 after Robinson was traded to the Detroit Lions. The Rams signed Rob to a four-year contract extension on August 20, 2018.

In 2018 Rob acquired the second seed in the National Football Conference (NFC) and began all 16 games and assisted the Rams win 13 games. In the Divisional Round, the Rams won over the Dallas Cowboys, and in the NFC Championship Game to reach Super Bowl LIII they won over the New Orleans Saints, where by a score of 13–3 they would lose to the New England Patriots.

Before Rob suffered a knee injury, he started in the first nine games for the Rams in the 2019 season, and the injury ended his season. Rob appeared in all four of the Rams’ postseason games and in and began 15 regular season games in the 2021 season,

When the Rams won over the Cincinnati Bengals 23–20 Havenstein won Super Bowl LVI. Rob signed a three-year contract extension worth $34.5 million including $24.1 million guaranteed on September 8, 2022. Rob began in all 17 regular season games for the Rams in the 2022 season.
