He first appeared replacing announcer Craig DeGeorge in the edition of the WWF Wrestling Challenge on May 15, 1988. During his time in the WWF, His primary duties included WWF All-American Wrestling, as host of Coliseum Video releases and play-by-play announcing for matches aired on Prime Time Wrestling, WWF Mania, (where he also provided commentary for “exclusive” games).
During the occasion, Mooney also portrayed his fictional siblings, an identical twin sister called Betty on Prime Time Wrestling (alongside heel wrestlers including Sensational Sherri) and an identical handsome twin brother named Ian Mooney while co-hosting Wrestling Spotlight.
In April 1993, his contract expired and Mooney opted not to renew it. Todd Pettengill replaced him as an Event Center personality and interviewer and the WWF All-American Wrestling for play-by-play and on WWF Mania by Gorilla Monsoon.
