She grew up in Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. She finished her primary and secondary schooling at Winston Churchill Elementary School and Eisenhower Junior High School. She then attended Hoffman Estates High School before enrolling in Trade School. She obtained secretarial skills there and subsequently began working for several businesses. Sherri began her stand-up comedy career in 1990 as a legal assistant in Beverly Hills.
Apart from that, she went on to take voice roles in the animated television shows ‘Brandy & Mr. Whiskers and ‘Kim Possible’. In 2013, she appeared as Angie in the satirical sitcom television series 30 Rock. Sherri has also served as a guest presenter and competitor on several television series, including Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, Rachael Ray, and To Tell the Truth. She also co-hosted the 35th Daytime Emmy Awards. Shepherd rose to prominence as a regular guest co-host on ABC’s daytime chat show The View.

She was also a co-author of Plan D: How to Lose Weight and Beat Diabetes, which was released in 2013.
