Stephen Silas is a well-known American basketball coach currently working as the head coach for the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Silas is the proud son of a longtime NBA head coach named Paul Silas. He worked under his dad at the New Orleans Hornets from 2002 to 2003, the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2003 to 2005, and the Charlotte Hornets from 2000 to 2002.
Moreover, he worked as an advance scout for the Washington Wizards during the 2005–2006 season as well as an assistant coach for the Golden State Warriors from 2006 to 2010, before leaving to rejoin his dad in Charlotte where he served from 2010 up to 2018. At the age of 27, Silas became the youngest assistant in the NBA at the time of his hiring as an assistant with the Hornets on June 5, 2000.

In the 2015–16 and 2013–14 seasons, Silas helped the Hornets to the playoffs during the 2013–14 season and the team finished with the second-highest number of single-season wins (43) in franchise history. Before joining the Bobcats, he spent more than half a decade coaching with the Golden State Warriors. Silas has been a scout and NBA assistant coach for more than a decade.
