Summer has obtained many high-profile interviews since landing in Central Florida, including but not limited to former US Representative Corrine Brown before she was convicted of fraud, Stacey Abrams, local Congresswoman Val Demings, Vice President Mike Pence, and Presidential Candidate Candi.
Knowles is particularly pleased with her work on the Project Community: Crusade for Change news documentary following George Floyd’s death. In 2021, it received an Edward R. Murrow award. She’s also proud of a small series she did in the early days of the coronavirus epidemic that focused on COVID-19’s impact on local inmates and their families.
Knowles relocated to Central Florida from Miami, where she worked for CBS 4 News as a reporter and fill-in anchor. She covered numerous high-profile national topics while in Miami, including the 2014 Florida gubernatorial debate between Gov. Rick Scott and Gov. Charlie Crist, Alan Gross’s release and the US’s intention to reestablish US-Cuba relations, and the George Zimmerman trial.
Knowles landed the first local TV interview with Rachel Jeantel shortly after the trial ended. She began her career as a News Writer and Overnight Producer for NBC News Channel in Charlotte, North Carolina, before obtaining her first on-air reporter job in Charlottesville, Virginia. After Charlottesville, Knowles went on to work for KTVI in St. Louis, WPEC in West Palm Beach, and the Associated Press in Washington, D.C.
From the Women’s Summit on Intersectionality to the African American Chamber of Commerce Eagle Awards, Knowles enjoys moderating and organizing events. She has been on the board of directors of the YMCA Achievers and worked with public school literacy initiatives, but her passion is speaking with and mentoring young journalists and those aspiring to be journalists.
