Prior to joining WESH 2 News, Mainofli spent nine years as the top meteorologist at WCHS-TV in Charleston, West Virginia. He also spent time in Atlanta, where he worked for The Weather Channel and CNN.
Mainofli was vital in saving lives during the devastating Groundhog Day tornado outbreak in central Florida on Feb. 2, 2007, which claimed the lives of 21 people. It was the second deadliest tornado outbreak in the region’s history.
He is dedicated to ensuring the safety of central Floridians during severe weather. He’s also covered the Great Tornado Outbreak of 2011 in Alabama and reported from the eye of hurricanes with hurricane hunters. He is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist with the National Weather Association’s stamp of approval.
He has received four Emmy nominations, one for his coverage of the Groundhog Day tornado outbreaks in central Florida and three for his coverage of severe weather in West Virginia.
WESH, virtual channel 2, is an NBC-affiliated television station licensed to Daytona Beach that broadcasts from Orlando, Florida. The station is part of a duopoly with Clermont-licensed CW affiliate WKCF, owned by the Hearst Television division of New York City-based Hearst Communications. The two stations share studios on Eatonville’s North Wymore Road, and WESH’s transmitter is located nearby.
