Rider’s career as a detective City of Toledo Police Detective in the Special Victims Unit spins for over 2o years. Before she retired, Rider served as an Employee Assistance Officer responding to and assisting in situations related to officer-involved shootings, line-of-duty deaths, critical incident support, substance abuse concerns, and relationship issue support.
In 2009, she began working as a Sexual Assault Investigation Consultant for the State of Ohio Attorney General. It is a position that needed her expertise in child and adult sexual exploitation investigations and internet safety.
After retiring from the police department in April 2016, she went on to work as an instructor of Forensic Investigations at Bowling Green State University.
“Forensics is very popular and applicable to any form of criminal justice. I share with my students the important ways it can assist with investigations,” Rider says.
In the course of her career, Rider received a Meritorious Service Medal for her work on a high profile cold case homicide investigation. The case she was awarded for, involved the murder of a Catholic nun by Father Gerald Robinson, who was convicted of killing her in 2006.
