On May 9, 2018, he signed with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent. On August 23, 2018, he recovered a blocked punt for a touchdown during a preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys. A week later, he caught two passes for 44 yards in a game against the Denver Broncos. As a rookie, he played in 13 games with two starts, recording 19 receptions for 210 yards and one touchdown. On November 27, 2020, Trent was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list by the Cardinals and activated on December 2, 2020.

He signed with the San Francisco 49ers on March 19, 2021. Trent was officially listed on the 49ers’ 53-man roster going into the 2021 season after his preseason performance of 5 receptions for 156 yards and a touchdown over 3 games. On March 18, 2022, he signed a one-year contract with the Miami Dolphins. On September 25, 2022, a failed punt in the endzone from Thomas Morstead bounced off Trent’s posterior and out of bounds, resulting in a safety during a game against the Buffalo Bills. Afterward, the play became known as the “Butt Punt”. However, the Dolphins ultimately won the game 21-19.

On March 20, 2023, Trent signed a one-year contract with the Buffalo Bills. In week 18, he caught his first touchdown with the Bills against his former team, the Miami Dolphins off a deflected pass. The Bills won 21–14 and clinched the division title.
