Tyler Perry Education

Perry did not finish high school, but he did obtain a General Educational Development (GED). While watching an episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show in his early twenties, he heard someone discuss the sometimes therapeutic effect of writing on allowing the author to work through his or her difficulties. This remark motivated him to pursue a writing career. He immediately began writing letters to himself, which inspired the musical I Know I Have Been Changed.

 Tyler Perry Family

Emmitt Perry Jr. was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Willie Maxine Perry (née Campbell) and carpenter Emmitt Perry Sr. He has three brothers and sisters. Perry’s childhood was described as a “living hell” in retrospect. Unlike his father, his mother took him to church every week, where he found refuge and contentment. To set himself apart from his father, he legally changed his first name from Emmitt to Tyler when he was sixteen years old.

Many years later, after seeing the film Precious, Perry was compelled to admit for the first time that he had been abused by a friend’s mother when he was 10 years old; he had also been molested by three men before this and later learned that his father had molested his buddy. Perry’s DNA test revealed that Emmitt Sr. was not her biological father.

 Tyler Perry Wife

Tyler has never married. He was found to be dating Gelila Bekele for a considerable amount of time. At a Prince concert in 2007, Tyler and Ethiopian model Gelila made their first connection.

 Tyler Perry’s Net Worth

Travis has an approximate net worth of $10 million.

Tyler Perry Career

He joined the United States Marine Corps in 2008 and served until his honorable discharge in November 2013. Travis also tried to return to college and become a professional football player after leaving the Corps, something he had wanted to do since 2009. He tried out for Georgia State University. Everything was OK until the Compass Test for entrance, as well as Mathematics, which he had never learned and had not practiced in 10 years.

He attempted to become a police officer after dropping out of college but was never contacted back. He then tried to become a firefighter, passing three of five tests but not being invited. Travis, feeling like a failure, took a job paying $8 an hour for a year before moving on to a job making $11.75 an hour in Atlanta, Georgia. Both needed manual labor and the transport of large goods.

Out of desperation, he tried his hand at modeling and acting in late 2013 and early 2014. In late 2014, Travis had three children with three separate women, no car, and two pending child support litigation. Travis looks for pious women to inspire him and “frequents the squat rack at the gym.”
