Vernon Kay Career
Vernon used to be a model before becoming a television figure. While working as a cutter of wooden panels in a DIY store, a modeling agency convinced him to visit the BBC Clothes Show Live and do a catwalk in exchange for some beers. His modeling career took off from there, and he modeled for several years before leaving to pursue a career in journalism.
In January 2004, he formally joined BBC Radio 1 as a presenter for a Sunday entertainment show. Four months later, he was handed the weekend slot of 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., thereby replacing Colin Murray and Edith Bowman. Vernon filled in for Edith Bowman when she was on maternity leave in 2008. He left the station on November 9, 2012, but returned to it three years later.
He returned to the network and hosted the weekday morning show from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., but he left again on March 17, 2017. Vernon returned to his BBC Radio 2 show Rylan Clark to fill in for him. He was quarantined during the COVID-19 epidemic after testing positive and was replaced by Gethin Jones.
