Deborah also documented the dangers Iraqi interpreters faced since British troops withdrew from Iraq. She won the inaugural Bevins Prize in 2008 and an Amnesty International UK Media Award.
The award honored her work documenting the dangers from the country that Iraqi interpreters faced following the withdrawal of British troops. She campaigned for Iraqi interpreters to be allowed to live in the UK. In 2011, Hayney was awarded with an honorary degree from the University of Salford in Greater Manchester.
She started serving for the British bureau of the Japanese television channel TV Tokyo as a producer in 1999, immediately after graduating from the University of Cardiff.
