Who is Mark Ferguson?

This is all you need to know about Mark Ferguson, a well-known Australian news presenter who is presently working for Seven News in Sydney on weeknights. Before that, Mark served at Nine News Sydney as a senior news presenter, presenting the weeknight news bulletin.

In 1989 Mark joined the Seven Network after serving with regional stations in Queensland and New South Wales and reported for multiple Seven News programs, such as Hinch and 11 AM. Before Mark moved to the Nine Network in 1992, he moved to Sydney in 1991. Mark worked as a London correspondent at Nine and reported from the UK on countless important stories such as the death of Princess Diana.

Mark went back to Sydney in 1997 as a reporter and became a presenter in 2001, in the end on the National Nine Early News at 6 am, and subsequently the National Nine Morning News at 11 am. Mark began working as the weekend presenter of National Nine News Sydney in 2003, and sometimes on weeknights, he filled in for Jim Waley whenever needed. During Waley’s absence when he took leave to battle skin cancer in the final quarter of 2003, Mark presented the flagship 6:00 pm weeknight news.

Mark permanently replaced Waley due to his efforts during this reporting, which drew high ratings for Nine, and saw him retain the main weeknight presenting position, after the retirement of Brian Henderson in 2002 under whom the bulletin had retained a comfortable ratings lead. In January 2009 Mark was replaced by Peter Overton due to dwindling ratings at the Nine Network and demoted back to his previous weekend presenting position.

It was disclosed in July 2009 that Mark would join Seven News in October. Mark was removed immediately from the weekend bulletin after being with Nine for 17 years and Georgie Gardner replaced him. Mark went on to present the news on Nine Afternoon News, and then on This Afternoon until September 2009.

After working for the network for over 17 years, Mark signed off Nine News for the final time in September 2009. Thereafter, on Seven News Sydney Mark presented the weekend bulletin, replacing Chris Bath who replaced Ian Ross. While Chris Bath was at the 2012 London Olympics, Mark presented Sunday Night. Mark was designated weeknight presenter for Seven News Sydney in January 2014 replacing Chris Bath.
